We have received many questions about the TSR 1st Edition AD&D reprints. Here is some information about them, presented in a question-and-answer format:
- What are these?
- As part of the 25th anniversary of the Dungeons & Dragons game, TSR has licensed an Italian company (Twenty First Century Games) to make miniature softcovered reprints of the classic AD&D 1st Edition hardcover rulebooks from the early-mid 1980's.
- What do they look like?
- They are indeed mini-books; each reprint is a soft-covered booklet that is about the size of an adult's palm and about 7 millimeters thick (except for the Dungeon Master's Guide, which is about a full centimeter thick). The glossy covers' illustrations are exact reproductions of the originals, including the spine. Each page is an exact reproduction, and each book has the same number of pages as the original. The only content that is new to this version is on the insides of the front and rear covers. The front cover contains a TSR 25th Anniversary logo and the back cover contains some info on the Italian company that reprinted the books (Twenty First Century Games).
- Are the text & charts readable?
- Yes. Completely. The font size is small, but all of the type is very crisp and can easily be read with the naked eye. All charts are fully usable. These books CAN be used during play, if one's need is mainly for reference. Since the font size is very small, prolonged reading becomes increasingly difficult after 2-3 minutes, unless an aid such as a magnifying glass is used.
- Which books were reprinted?
-
2009B Monster Manual (pegasus cover w/orange spine)
2010B Player's Handbook (wizard cover w/orange spine)
2011B Dungeon Master's Guide (wizard holding doors open / orange spine cover)
2012 Fiend Folio
2013C Legends & Lore 1st Edition (early printings were called "Deities & Demigods")
2016 Monster Manual II
2017 Unearthed Arcana
2018 Oriental Adventures
2019 Dungeoneer's Survival Guide
2020 Wilderness Survival Guide
2021 Dragonlance Adventures
2022 Manual of the Planes
2023 Greyhawk Adventures
- Are all thirteen titles available?
- Many of the titles are now sold out at the source, and cannot be reordered.
- Which versions of these hardcovers got reprinted?
- Only the final printings of each book were reprinted. All books thus have matching "orange spines" except for the Fiend Folio, which has a blue/black spine.
- How much are they?
- All books have the same retail price of $9.95. Several of the books say $15.00 on the cover, but this is only because the covers are exact reproductions of the original books.
The Hit Pointe is selling them for $9.50 each (the boxed sets are priced as marked), plus shipping. See the TSR/Core Products section for current availability.
